September 23 Back from our holidayWe had fun on holiday in Cornwall last week. We put some food in Katie's hand and a sheep licked the food off with its tongue. It's an odd sensation and Katie didn't like it. We drove a car. Which Katie liked a lot and wanted to go on again. This all took place at The Big Sheep. On another day we went to the Tamar Otter Sanctuary and saw some otters. They're very cute and playful but they do pack a nasty bite so you have to be careful to keep little fingers at a distance. We also saw some lovely deer. Urs fed the deer after they came over to see us.
We also visited Boscastle which had been devastated by a flash flood four years ago. They've cleaned the whole place up and clearly spent a lot of money doing it as well as putting in place more flood defences. The village is absolutely beautiful and well worth a visit. September 12 In The Night GardenTaking advice from a dad at work I bought Katie an In The Night Garden DVD.
She hasn't watched much TV of late which I'm pleased about but we went through a period recently where she needed something to calm her down and I'd had enough of the same Teletubbies DVD.
In The Night Garden was created by the same people behind the Teletubbies and it looks like Katie is going to be a big fan of Iggle Piggle.
In the meantime I've bought some more books so we can balance the TV viewing with something more substantial. She has loads of books already but she's so familiar with all of them that it's good to introduce a few new ones. And our local charity shops have plenty to choose from. September 11 Bob!Katie recognised Bob the Builder on TV yesterday.
She's played with the Bob hand-me down toy for quite a while (squeeze him and he enquires as to whether 'it' can be fixed by him and his colleagues and another voice replies that it is possible for them to do it, if you see it I mean) and recognises him by name so I suppose it was only a matter of time before he popped up when the telly was on.
You've got to admire his positive attitude and team-playing skills. September 06 If you're happy and you know it......clap your hands.
Which Katie first did during the Oxford-Cambridge boat race earlier this year.
But now she'll do it when this song comes on or when we read a book with teddy bears doing the actions.
She is also an expert at touching her nose, her toes and the sky and she turns around rather well too.
As for head, shoulders, knees and toes...we're still working on the shoulders and the eyes. She can do all the others now.
And I've also taught her to touch her hair using a different action from touching her head.
She also does the actions to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and various actions we have invented for a book that has pages such as As Tall As A Giraffe.
All in all good fun. Name that bookMy latest favourite game is to quote a line from one of Katie's books to she if she'll recognise it.
So instead of saying: "Do you want to read The Very Hungry Caterpillar?" which prompts her to go and find the book, I say: "On Monday he ate through one apple."
And she still goes and gets it. YellowAsk Katie what colour something is she'll get it right every time.
As long it's "Lello." |
