9月27日 A change of venue for bath timeGoodbye plastic bath on a stand.
Hello yellow plastic chair with suction pads that sticks onto the bath.
Needs more water but she does like sitting in the chair.
After failing to win an eBay auction for one (which would have cost me £5 including postage) I got the same item for £3 from the NCT Nearly New Sale last Sunday - the only item we bought that wasn't clothing.
Play den and Tripp Trapp chairThe play den Urs ordered arrived today. You'd think that a kiddie wouldn't be delighted to be penned in but I expect she'll love it. The play den signals the end of the activity mat. Perhaps I'll be the one most disappointed by that. I'm sure Pinky Parrot will still find a way to reach the end of Periodic Table so all is not lost.
We've also assembled the Tripp Trapp chair and we've added on the attachments we bought recently; we're getting ever closer to the end of the Bumbo.
Getting betterOn Monday Urs had to take Katie to the doctor after the nursery called to say our little one had a temperature of 38.9C.
The doctor said she had a throat infection.
No surprise then that Katie has been a bit out of sorts this week and last night was very hard work for Urs but it looks like Katie's been getting back to her normal self today at nursery. 9月25日 Bake me a cake as fast as you canWe were given a small butterfly cake at Katie's nursery.
Katie had helped to make it, apparently, by stirring the mixture.
We brought it home and had half each.
Delicious.
NCT Nearly New Sale - reportPhew, what a morning we had on Sunday.
Our neighbour kindly agreed to baby sit Katie for a couple of hours while Urs and I headed off to the NCT Nearly New Sale.
Regular readers will know that you need to arrive 30 minutes before it opens - such is the competition among the bargain hunters.
We got there bang on 9:30am to find we were about 80th in the queue.
The queue had 220 people in it by the time the doors opened at 10:00am.
We went straight for the clothes racks of 6-9 months and 9-12 months and got lots of good stuff. We didn't have many clothes in those sizes - we do now.
I had a look at the books and toys but decided against getting anything - she doesn't need too much of that stuff right now and we already have what we need.
We staggered to the check-out and found the total of £68.50 was pretty much the combined total of all the money we had on us.
Sounds expensive? Well, we won't need to buy another pair of trousers or any tops or coats for six months (famous last words) and consider how much a new outfit from a shop costs.
In the end I just had to take a photo of the pile of clothes we bought.
We got back to find Katie had been well behaved and once she had gone down to sleep our neighbour had a nap on the sofa too. What a peaceful household!
9月22日 Katie sleeps, we don'tIn a strange twist of events Katie slept through the night whereas Urs and I kept waking up. Fast eaterYou'll see from the video in the previous post that Katie doesn't hang around when it comes to eating (she takes after her dad in this respect).
We are told that at her nursery she eats faster than kids twice her age. 9月21日 The end of Bumbo is nighKatie's Bumbo seat has been terrific but she is now struggling and straining to get out of it during meal times by arching her back.
Eventually, so Urs tells me, she may fall backwards as she tries to get out of it - I guess it's the baby equivalent of leaning back on two legs of your chair at school and inevitably falling over much to the amusement of your friends. - but I hope we catch her in time.
The Tripp Trapp chair beckons. 9月19日 New weightIt's been a while since we had Katie weighed but I got a text message this afternoon: "Hello Daddy. I've put on 15oz in four weeks. I now weigh 14lb 14.5oz. Love Katie x." 9月18日 NCT reunion II: it's all about crawlingWow, some of those babies can crawl fast.
One wanted to crawl to the garden path to pick up stones (and probably eat them) - such speed.
It'll be Katie's turn before long.
Not sure we're quite ready for all that yet but I guess you never are til it happens.
Anyway, it was a fun Sunday afternoon. Good BBQ, nice wine, sunshine, good people and babies happily playing together.
There was one instance of baby dominos - where they are all sitting near each other and one accidentally topples and causes the others to do so - but it was all nice and gentle and therefore very amusing for parents. 9月16日 One week til the NCT Nearly New SaleNext Sunday is the next NCT Nearly New sale in our area.
It starts at 10am but as regular readers will know, getting there at 10am is a disastrous tactic as by that time the hall will be crowded with the more savvy parents who turned up at 9:30am and bagged all the good stuff. NCT reunion todayIn an hour or so we'll be meeting up with the other parents who were in our ante-natal classes.
Should be fun.
We haven't had Katie weighed for a while now but she's sure to be the lightest of the all babies there. Week 30: nappy count breaks the 1,100 markA busy week on the nappy front with 44 used. 9月13日 Spinning around IIUrs left a voicemail this morning to say that she found Katie lying on her front in her cot this morning so she's managed to spin around in her cot on another axis.
Won't be long before she's trying to climb over the bars, something Urs was apparently an expert at in her formative years. 9月12日 Nursery challenge IIUrs informed Katie's original nursery that we are moving her to a different one. She went to pick up Katie's things only to find there was a fault with their freezer and all the milk she had expressed had been lost. And they wonder why we're leaving them! The new nursery is smaller, more friendly and actually closer to where we live. I'm sure we'll all be a lot happier with it. Of course, we have a month's notice to pay on the old one so we'll be paying for two for a while but, as I've found, you can't put a price on being comfortable with the place looking after your little one. Another example of the problems we had with the old one was when Urs was introduced to the carer who would be in charge of the youngest children - including Katie - the week before Katie started. It all seemed fine and Urs explained to her what Katie needed. When we turned up on the first full day we found that the carer Urs had spoken to was on holiday and someone else would be in charge (for two weeks) who obviously wasn't familiar what Katie needed. The new nursery has been clear up front about who's going on holiday when and therefore who needs to know what. 9月11日 Spinning aroundI went into Katie's room the other day to pick up out of her cot after her nap and found she was facing the opposite way to the way I had put her down.
Given the narrowness of the cot I thought this was an impressive manoeuvre - the first time I've seen it. 9月10日 Sitting upI've been reminded by Urs that Katie is doing well in the sitting up department and this needs to go on blog. So here we are. She's also started eating pasta. 9月9日 Tough weekend but a nice visitUrs took Katie to the doctor on Friday because she had some red spots on her body.
The doc said she had a mild virus which might have been passed on to Urs, adding that Katie's version of the virus was so mild because she is breastfed.
And this weekend I've been ill. I may have drunk too much at an MSN party on Friday night, I may have eaten a dodgy canape, I may have caught the virus. It may have been a combination or something else but I've been feeling pretty rough. Urs wasn't able to eat much either.
On the bright side Katie's cousins Mikey and Daneal came to visit with their parents and we had a good time. Mikey likes holding Katie and both the boys wanted to see Katie being fed. Their parents brought Katie a load of books and tapes that their two have grown out of, a buggy and some useful Tommy Tippee items too.
9月7日 Tough dayUrs was sick a number of times during the night and early morning yesterday. I stayed at home to help out and took Katie to and from nursery. Still can't quite get how to fold the buggy up properly (we leave it in the shed at the nursery) but I'm sure I'll get there. Urs is a feeling bit better today so I've gone to work. |
