    A Dragons' Den first

At last a product has appeared on BBC show Dragons' Den that I actually want to buy. And it's a product for parents.

Two women demonstrated Cuddledry - a long, soft bathing towel for parents to use when they are taking their baby out of the bath. It clips around your neck like an apron leaving both hands free to pick up and hold your child.

You then wrap up the baby in the towel (the material is nice and soft); it's actually big enough to wrap up the baby properly and has a hooded part for the head. You then unclip it from round your neck using one hand. Brilliant.

     Why is this product useful?
All the other towels I have been using have been deficient in at least one way: they had a hood but were too small, they were big enough but had no hood or were made of slightly too rough material. And all them suffered from the fact that I do not have three hands - two to take Katie out of the bath and one to hold the towel. In the past week part of the towel I was using has ended up in the bath twice.

Is all of this really that important? Well yes it is. It is the difference between a baby who comes out of her bath happy and warm and once dressed will go to sleep quite easily and an unhappy baby who whinges as soon as she is out of the water and becomes very difficult to dress which in turn means she will be more agitated when I try to put her down to sleep.

Is that worth spending £24.99 on? For me it is. It should mean a happier, warmer baby and a less stressed parent too. A lot of stuff pushed at parents seems to me to be totally unnecessary and I am pleased to say I don't feel like we have spent anywhere near the typical amount surveys say babies cost you (tip: visit your local charity shops and go to National Childbirth Trust Nearly New Sales) but this is one product I am going to try out.

    Did they get an investment?
In the Den the entrepreneurs received a tough time over their expected costs. They managed to get two offers but were not willing to give away more than 35% of their company so they decided to leave with nothing. There is more about this episode of Dragons' Den on the MSN Money website.

However, although they left the Den empty-handed they have managed to demonstrate their product to a national TV audience; the unhelpful photo in the Mothercare brochure (which is one of the retailers that have already taken their product) simply does not do it justice. The Mothercare website does a better job but still not as good as a long demo on a TV show.

And they have just found one more customer.

And another free, handy promo with links to their Cuddledry website where I have placed my order.

    I wish them well.

    A week of nursery comments

Katie receives a daily report at the end of every day she attends nursery.

Here are some highlights from this week:
    Day one.
I played with: rattles, push down toys, soft toys, treasure basket, pretend food.

    Day two.
Singing, painting fireworks * , animals, rice krispies play, teset, pretend food.

    Day three.
I've had a nice day at nursery. I was a bit tearful at times. We played with push-up-and-down toys, telephones, link-ups and cars. I enjoyed listening to stories and singing.

Everything she eats is recorded as is the amount she drinks from a beaker. Sleeps and nappy changes are also noted.

    * I assume these were not live explosives and were in fact drawings of fireworks. Either way, her clothes needed washing when she got home.

    Smoothie operator

There we were having breakfast although Katie was looking like she had enough when I brought my glass of Innocent blueberry smoothie into the dining room.

It's a lovely burgundy colour and Katie's eyes lit up and focused on the glass.

Eventually we gave her a sip.

    She loved it.

I have to say I made sure I had most of it (hey, it's my breakfast we're talking about here!) but we'll give it to her again and maybe make some vegetable ones of our own.

    Barf Time 3

And last night it was Urs' turn to be ill. Poor thing.

And she's at home today with Katie who, I understand, has just ended a day or so of extreme constipation in unfortunately spectacular fashion.

There are times when the baby bouncer may not be ideal. You'll work out the rest...

    Barf time 2

    12:30am Sunday morning.

Not Katie this time but me!

Not sure what caused it as I had eaten the same things as Urs but I was rather ill.

Sunday was spent at home rather than at my sister's 40th birthday party and Urs had to look after me and Katie.

Being ill when you're a parent is not a good thing. Babies are (unknowingly and understandably) unforgiving. Katie was her usual sweet self, of course, but you can't ask her to play nicely on her own for a while while you take a break!

Had to return the (virtually unused) hire car on Monday morning then decided to go back to bed rather than traipse in to work. Good decision.

    Barf time

The night before last Urs was woken up by Katie crying at about 12:30am.

Nothing new there, perhaps, and sometimes we can let her go back to sleep by herself but on this occasion it sounded a bit worse than normal.

I was woken up by Urs to find that Katie had been sick all over her cot.

    And herself.

Normally when she's sick during the day it's just a little bit of white gunk but this was a full-on stomach contents-emptying episode. The works.

Let's just say that a lot of stain remover was applied to clothes and bedding during that night.

Urs sorted out Katie's hair in the morning and used the hairdryer on her for the first time - she doesn't have a lot of hair (Katie, Urs has plenty).

    And she seems fine now.

She's still the sweetest, cutest little thing and her parents love her to bits.

    New weight

Katie has put on 1.5oz so now weighs 15lbs.

Her height (or length) has also been measured and is 68.5cm.

So whereas her weight is between the second and ninth centile her height is on the 50th centile.

    Three nights in a row!

    Hurrah!

Katie slept all the way through the night three times in a row this week.

Normal service was resumed at the weekend but it was nice while it lasted.

    "Dada"

For the past week Katie has ben saying: "Dada."

What a proud moment. When she did it three times in a row yesterday during a visit from her granny and grandad I smiled so much my face ached.

She won't always do it on demand, of course, but I did find that whispering it in her ear worked quite well.

Tripp Trapp chair is a winner

We stopped using the Bumbo about a week ago now and Katie sits at the table in the Tripp Trapp chair (the manufacturer is not paying me to write any of this, by the way!).

    Photos below.

    Currying flavour

We took Katie to a curry house on Saturday. She's been before but this time we gave her some of the food to try.

Urs ate plenty of curry while she was pregnant so you'd expect Katie to like it, perhaps.

The texture of a poppadom didn't go down too well and sag paneer wasn't a winner but tarka dahl was very popular.
